Stories connect people. They open up new perspectives, allow us to immerse ourselves in different worlds and inspire us to reflect. While the formats and media have changed the essence remains the same: stories bring people together! Film has earned its place among the great storytellers and is capable of presenting stories from diverse social and cultural contexts through a variety of cinematic styles. Upper Austria, a region rich in culture, has a close relationship with cinema, films, and film festivals. Having institutions like the Linz International Short Film Festival (Linz ISFF) is a great asset. The current ninth edition of the Linz ISFF makes it clear: the concept has paid off; the festival is an integral part of the cultural program in Upper Austria and its capital, Linz. This year, a new submission record was set once again! A total of 4,043 films were submitted this year from 121 countries, giving the festival a strong international presence. This underscores the growing international interest and demonstrates just how widely recognized the festival has become. Audiences can therefore look forward to a diverse mix of live-action films, animated films and documentaries. Art and culture in Upper Austria embody the dynamism that shapes life in our region. They shape how people live together, providing creative impetus and artistic inspiration. Art and culture are an enrichment in every respect. The state of Upper Austria supports both artistic creation and cultural activities. Key drivers that advance art and culture include cultural associations and institutions, as well as their projects. This also applies to the Linz ISFF I wish all participants and audiences a wonderful festival experience.
