City Councilor for Women’s Affairs

“The film industry still has a great deal of catching up to do when it comes to gender equality: from the (mis-) representation of real-life situations of women, the alarming extent of sexualized violence (#MeToo), to the inadequate (financial) recognition of women’s achievements – there is still much to be done to achieve real change. The International Short Film Festival in Linz makes a powerful statement in this regard. With its great diversity, it provides a platform for women, FLINTA* people and, in particular, female filmmakers, directors, screenwriters and producers. The 4,043 film submissions from 121 countries demonstrate the festival’s international reach and the visionary work of its team. A particular highlight is the cooperation with the Women’s Office of the City of Linz, which makes the “Queer & Feminist Day” on 15 October 2026 possible. It creates a major platform for gender-sensitive issues, discussions and new perspectives. A further highlight is the support provided to international mentees through coaching and assistance in realizing their own film projects. I am particularly pleased that through this process, a mentee from Linz has received financial support from the Women’s Affairs Department – a strong example of the connection between local talent development and international exchange. My heartfelt thanks go to the entire festival team and the jury. I wish all visitors inspiring encounters, engaging conversations and, above all, an open-minded perspective that extends beyond their own horizons.”
