Maral Keshavarz

Maral Keshavarz is an Iranian-German actress based in Berlin. Born and raised in Tehran, she moved to Germany at the age of 16 and studied acting at the Berlin University of the Arts (UdK). From 2021 to 2024, she was a permanent ensemble member at Münchner Volkstheater. Since 2024, she has worked as a freelance actress across film, television, and theatre. Her recent screen work includes one of the two lead roles in Julian Radlmaier’s feature film Sehnsucht in Sangerhausen (Phantoms of July), which premiered in the International Competition (Concorso internazionale) at the Locarno Film Festival in 2025. The film’s cast received a Special Mention at BAFICI – Buenos Aires International Film Festival of Independent Cinema. Her recent work also includes a leading role in Talkhon Hamzavi’s Swiss episodic film Hotel Excelsior and in Lars Becker’s ZDF television film Wahrheit oder Lüge 3. Having spent half of her life in Iran and half in Germany, Keshavarz’s artistic perspective is shaped by both cultures and languages. Her work explores questions of identity, language, and cultural perspective, informing her approach to film and storytelling.
